About the Keynote Speaker
Elleanor Jean Hendley is an Emmy Award-Winning pioneer in Philadelphia broadcast journalism and an advocate for empowering girls. She was the only woman of color to produce and host a weekly prime-time magazine show, "City Lights," which aired for ten years during her 25-year tenure at CBS 3 TV. She also served as the Eyewitness News education reporter and director of Public Affairs.
Hendley's commitment to young girls' education and development is evident through her creation of Teenshop, Inc.® in 1985 while working full-time in television. This nonprofit volunteer weekend college prep and life skills program for girls of color has achieved a 100% college acceptance rate. With chapters in California, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Teenshop has influenced over 3,000 alumnae. The organization's partnership with Drexel University, where it operates a chapter on campus and a mentoring initiative with Drexel students, underscores its success.
In 2005, Hendley founded Girls Achieve® to provide in-school curriculum support and enrichment programs for middle school girls, and she is the author of the Girls Achieve Activity Book.
A former public school educator, Hendley earned her BS in Education from Ohio’s Central State University and pursued further studies at the Sorbonne in Paris. She is actively involved in numerous organizations, including the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, The Forum of Executive Women, The Links, Coalition of 100 Black Women, and is a Commissioner with the Delaware County Women’s Commission.
Don't Miss the University-Wide Commencement on June 12!
We hope you'll join us for this special event at Citizens Bank Park on Thursday, June 12 at 5 p.m. ET. We look forward to celebrating our graduates at the University-wide Commencement ceremony, where our newest Forever Dragons will get the chance to participate in a procession around the baseball field and have their degrees conferred before being officially welcomed into the ranks of Drexel alumni.
