Medical Emergencies

If a medical emergency arises, remain calm and summon help as soon as possible. Call the emergency number specific to your campus or dial 9-1-1. Provide the telephone dispatcher with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Description of incident
  • Exact location of victim - provide as much detail as possible to be located quickly.

Automatic External Defibrillator (AED)

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is used in conjunction with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to improve the chances of survival in a victim suffering from cardiac arrest. All Drexel University Police vehicles and Public Safety mobile units are equipped with AEDs. Drexel University Police and Public Safety personnel are certified in First Aid/CPR and AED use.

Drexel EMS

Drexel EMS is a volunteer student organization that provides emergency medical care to Drexel's University City Campus and the immediate community.

Drexel EMS is certified by the Pennsylvania Department of Health as quick response service (QRS), rendering emergent, stabilizing aid, from the time you call for EMS, to the time a Philadelphia Fire Department unit arrives. At this time Drexel EMS does not provide emergency transport services, but does provide the same level of care as any Philadelphia Fire Department Basic Life Support (BLS) unit.

Drexel EMS is advised by the Department of Public Safety and receives medical direction from Drexel University's College of Medicine. Drexel EMS works closely with Drexel Police and the Department of Public Safety to provide the best pre-hospital care possible.

More information can be found on the Drexel EMS website.
