Heard Around Campus — February 2025

View of Drexel Main Building Main Court

It’s the end of the shortest month of the year, and the last full month of winter and winter term. Make sure you’re aware of available benefits — free Rec Center classes, professional certificates and vision, audiology and speech-language pathology resources from Salus — and upcoming deadlines and events.

Here’s what was heard around campus last month:

Complete Required Training on Prohibited Harassment and Discrimination by March 7

As announced to the University community, Drexel has entered into a voluntary, legally binding resolution agreement with the Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Education to continue our efforts toward ensuring a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive campus environment for all. To comply with the resolution agreement, all faculty and professional staff are required to complete a new online prohibited harassment and discrimination training module by March 7, 2025.

Upcoming Free Rec Center Classes for Faculty and Staff

University Recreation is offering free, mid-day group exercise classes at the Drexel Recreation Center during the 2025 winter and spring terms for all faculty and professional staff. You do not have to be a member of the Rec Center to take advantage of these offerings. Classes run from 12–12:45 p.m. and include: strength classes on the first Tuesday, cardio classes on the second Wednesday, and movement classes on the third Thursday of each month through May. Visit the HR website or the Rec Center portal for exact dates and details. To register for these classes, follow the step-by-step process on the University Recreation website. The Drexel Recreation Center is located at 33rd and Market streets and is accessible by the Drexel shuttle bus service

Managing Within the Law Workshop March 13

“Managing Within the Law” focuses on what every manager needs to know about creating a safe and inclusive work environment. Participants will learn where to turn for help in engaging staff, working with colleagues from key departments to create a welcoming environment, understanding disability and other accommodations, and issue-spotting. Registration Is Open for March 26 Employee Olympics

Drexel’s annual Employee Olympics will be held from 2–5 p.m. on March 26. Sports this year include:

  • Pickleball: Similar to tennis, teams of two will compete against each other in this racquet sport by hitting a pickleball back and forth over a net. The first to reach the respective score or those winning after time expires will advance.
  • Dodgeball: Teams of five will compete to be the last team standing by ducking, dodging and weaving to avoid getting hit by opposing team’s throws. If you get hit, you’re out, and if you catch it you can save a teammate and have them join the game again. Last team standing wins!
  • Baggo: Teams of two will compete against each other by throwing a sandbag onto wooden boards. The team to first reach the respective score or those winning within the time limit will move on.
  • Fun Walk: This in-person or virtual event will feature a 30-minute outdoor walk.

New for this year:

  • The event will begin with a brief warm-up in the Recreation Center basketball court area with an instructor from the center’s Group Exercise program. Immediately following the warm-up will be ~15 minutes of open play for baggo and pickleball before the competitions begin.
  • Participants are also invited to compete in the “Gauntlet,” a sports challenge course where individuals will try to complete different challenges in a timed format. The challenges include: soccer (kicking a soccer ball into a goal), football (throwing a ball through an elevated hoop), airmail (throwing a sandbag into a grounded target) and basketball (making a free throw).

For registration info, please visit the event webpage. You can head over to the Olympics after stopping by the ProcureExperience & Supplier Expo, also happening on campus that day.

You’re Invited: ProcureExperience & Supplier Expo on March 26

The annual Drexel ProcureExperience & Supplier Expo returns on March 26 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Health Sciences Building (60 North 36th St.). This event is an opportunity to connect and learn with colleagues, suppliers and Accounts Payable & Procurement Services staff. The expo features networking, informative breakout sessions, supplier interaction and a solution center where you can receive personalized guidance from Accounts Payable & Procurement Services. Please register online to secure your spot in the event breakout sessions. After the expo, you can head over to the Employee Olympics event that starts at 2 p.m.!
