ROTC at Drexel University

ROTC at Drexel University guides students to graduate with both a college degree and potential to join the United States Armed Forces. The program aligns with Drexel's experiential learning mission, allowing students to develop a military career skillset before signing any contracts.

What are the benefits of a college education if you want to join the military?

ROTC gives you a chance to try the military out before making any formal commitments. You will have the chance to wear the uniform, do the drills, and maybe even fly in a helicopter before having to sign any binding military contract. You can explore military career pathways and get a college degree simultaneously.

What are military science classes like?

In ROTC, you will learn leadership and develop a foundational understanding of the history and skills needed for a career in the army. As a student at Drexel, you can gain access to ROTC programs related to the Army, Air Force, or Navy.

ROTC is a pathway to join the military, but it is not binding. It is like taking an introductory class such as Spanish 1 or Survey of Art History. It is like other classes at Drexel in that if you take it for one term and do not like it, you do not have to renew it on your schedule.

How do students balance aspirations for a military career with college?

As a member of ROTC at Drexel — you are a student first, cadet second. It can be a lot to juggle if you want to participate in clubs, sports, and ROTC. We will help you make a time management schedule. Our program managers and recruiters want to ensure that you can participate in ROTC and graduate with your degree.

How do I join and get scholarships?

If you apply to Drexel University as a high schooler, you may be eligible for a four-year scholarship through the ROTC program. You do not have to be invited to participate in ROTC or apply for a scholarship. ROTC scholarships usually apply to tuition expenses and can be combined with Drexel financial aid to also cover room and board. Note that simply applying for an ROTC scholarship is not considered a commitment to the program. If you are offered a scholarship, you can choose to accept or decline the offer.

Can current Drexel students join ROTC?

You can join ROTC after having a good standing on campus while you are a student at Drexel. As long as you have two years left of education at Drexel, you can join whether you are an incoming FY student or pursuing a PhD.
